Although the competition brings together the top clubs from across the continent, there is a gulf in class between different European leagues.
La liga, the Premier League and the Serie A are regarded as the best leagues and as such Spanish, English and Italian teams tend to do well in the competition. Or look for a group with some weak teams, the real lowly minnows of European football. These are likely to ship a lot of goals and picking the star striker of one of the stronger teams in the group may be a wise bet on the Champions League.
